The lover.
(My work brings me in contact with people who have suffered devastating tragedies in some way in their life..this poem is 'inspired'...am not sure thats an appropriate word..by one such tragedy..)
He stood shivering
wet skin and dry eyes;
He jingled
jangled tunes
breaking through
torn pocket
wounds.
He lived rough
and pretended to be
oh so tough;
Meagre possessions
in a broken cart
a blanket, cigarettes
and a burnt out heart.
Where will he
sleep tonight?
Underneath the
plastic sheet
behind the
garbage bin
fiddlin’ with
her frayed picture
he’d gambled
And
didn’t win.

makes me think of the street people I see in a different light now.. what tragedies each one carries.. well written..
Really like this Pinc. The pathos is so subtly laced. Good! :)
Just dropped by to see what was up.
Very touching poem.
We all gamble with our lives and as you say some loose and never recover

Very moving Pinc...
You paint such a vivid picture, and this time you didn't even use any crayons.
I keep coming back here for more!

didn't win!"..somehow more than the fact that he is a homeless guy, these lines affected me more.Maybe he deserves it..maybe not..but i guess in life it is importabt to know when to stop..and am glad you are in this field affecting lives..
Hi Cushion
Touching...
Thanks for visiting my blog.
lovely! your work must be so rewarding to inspire to write so beautifully!
Sad, but well recorded... you have a remarkable sense of observation.
This is eloquent imagery in which you artfullyconvey his devastation and desolation. Are you a social worker or art therapist? I've never worked with the homeless, but I used to regularly work with those who underwent traumas. Your deep caring shows in your choice of words here on your blog.
kuch naya please? :-))
Merry Christmas it won't let me post above, blogging typical
this is so sad. you really captured the experience, the soul, the pain of this person in this poem. to picture this man holding this photograph, it makes me sad. i'm just glad "he" gambled, that he took the risk because otherwise it would all just be what might have been and cuts even deeper.
beautiful pincushion
